School Carnival Fun!

Music basket
Set of drums for classroom

Our school had their annual carnival on Saturday.  The music department entered a basket of goodies for the silent auction and I worked at a bake sale specifically for music.  We've been enjoying a set of drums loaned to us!  We hope to buy our own in the fall!  Ashton enjoyed the wii station and the inflated slides, Cameron worked at the student council booth and helped me.  Derrik was there, being my support!  It was a hot but very fun day!

Recycled Hat Day

Cameron and Ashton sported recycled hats they made for school.  I don't know, maybe it will be a new trend?

Start Your Engines

Cameron, Ashton and I headed to the park on Sunday to try out Cam's new remote control car.  Ashton already had one so the two of them had fun racing and showing off!

Easter Day!

We had a wonderful day celebrating the Resurrection and enjoying the beautiful weather!  Cameron and Ashton did their baskets and participated in the hunt alone this year (E was still in bed!).  Cameron got a Lakers t-shirt, Ashton got a new Franklin dvd and Ethan got a Chinese yo-yo thingy.  :)

Like father, like son......have some chocolate with your breakfast!

It lives!  :)

Egg Decorating

Cameron and Ashton had fun decorating eggs last weekend.  They turned out pretty!  Another thing I'm learning about these guys, if the project takes too long then they may not stick around to see the final product.  :)  I did get pictures before they left so I'm happy!

Jam Session

Derrik and Ethan jammed together on the kitchen floor last night.  Ethan had figured out the bass line to Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" and then Derrik figured out the chords to join in on guitar.  I love it when they do that!  I grabbed a quick video.

Ashton's Open House

We visited the school to be a part of Ashton's open house.  He is rockin' and rollin' through first grade!  So proud of him!

Ethan's 13th birthday!

Birthday boy

Ethan had a great birthday and is super-excited to finally be 13!  We took him and 4 of his friends to Mountasia to play lazer tag and video games.  He was sung to in the restaurant (very embarrassed) and had a big ice cream sundae.  Thanks everyone for the cards and gifts!  You made his day special!

Rainbows on St. Patricks Day

Our normal Saturday soccer schedule was cancelled due to torrential rains that blew in overnight.  It was cold, wet and windy and it was nice not to have to sit outside in it.  Cameron and Ashton played an indoor game and had some fun!

We found a few rainbows later in the day!

Blogging can be hard to do.....

Whew!  We made it through the first school/teaching stretch of 2012.  I didn't take many photos but did take a few of things I'm working on in my classroom.  So, to have something to post, here's what you get!

Kindergarten and 1st grade are going through the Freddie the Frog books,
learning the lines and spaces of the treble clef.
I also rewrote verse to Froggie went a'courtin'
to help them remember details about the story.
2nd grade is working on music for their Spring musical.

3rd grade is learning rhythms and creating them with popsicle sticks.

4th-6th grade is traveling to Jazz music by understanding the styles
that came before it.  We studied Ragtime and learning about Scott Joplin.
Here we were looking at the Maple Leaf Rag and understanding
it's form.

Not very exciting but it's taken a lot of my free time to create lessons and a curriculum that I can work with.  Here's what I've been up to!
