Fall Revue Performance

Ethan and the choir performed a concert on Thursday night.  The highlight was Ethan was chosen to sing one of his own songs during the evening!  Such a fun night seeing our boy do so well at what he loves.

2nd Competition: Wildcat Classic

Ethan and Cameron were in a local marching band competition Saturday evening.  The band came in 3rd place in their division against some strong bands!  Proud of these boys!

Fall Festival at SCE

Ashton, Derrik and I went to the fall festival at the elementary school (our last one!) on Saturday.  Ashton went as a mime.  It was all his idea and his costume arrived just in time.

Ethan Adventures

Ethan is officially driving!  He passed both the written and behind the wheel tests.  I've been doing a lot of shuttling to the high school since both he and Cameron are involved in music activities both after school and in the evenings.  He did his first solo voyage last Thursday for his choir sectional.  So exciting!
He also had a 6th grade reunion at our school.  Only part of the kids could come but it was fun for him to reconnect with some of his elementary classmates.

Back to Work, Band Assembly

I am officially back at work!  I've been teaching morning choir since August, but this week I started teaching general music Prek-6th grade.  This week we also had band visitors from the junior high across the street.  We are introducing beginning band at the elementary school and showed the 5-6th grade students a few of the instruments we are offering.  It was a busy week, for sure!

First Marching Competition: Royal Classic

Ethan and Cameron competed in their first competition in Simi Valley on Saturday.  I traveled with the band as first aid.  They had a great showing and came in first in their division!

Hurricane Harbor visit

We spend the first weekend of fall break enjoying the last day of operation for the water park.  We had a great day!

Showing off my new school spirit shirt!  I head back next week for another year of music at Santa Clarita.  We're trying to get a beginning band program rolling so my plate is full!

Band Rumblings

Ethan, Cameron and the band are preparing for competition season starting next weekend.  So exciting!  First, the renovation of the field at school has been finished so they can practice with lines and second, Ethan and the drumline have new drums!  Ethan has been spending some of his free time up at school getting the drums tuned and prepped for their use.  Get ready for a lot of marching band posts!

Sadie likes her routine.  She expects a morning walk, even on weekends when Derrik would like a few more minutes to finish waking up.  She was perched on his shoulder, just reminding him that she was quite ready to go!

Homecoming Game

It was homecoming week at the high school and the boys played in the pep rally on Friday before the game.  Later, I caught a quick picture of them in uniform together!

Citizenship Award for Ashton

Ashton kicked off the new school year by earning a citizenship award!  Such a great start!  He's working hard and doing a great job!

Derrik, Ethan and Cameron went to an outdoor concert in LA last weekend and saw NeedtoBreathe, one of their favorite bands!

Hummingbird visit

A hummingbird got trapped in my classroom door last week.  Such an adventure!  After forgetting how it got in and flying around for about an hour, it flew out the open window.  We joked that a hummingbird really wanted to do some humming in the music room!

Saugus Marching Band Performance Game 2

Ethan and Cameron performed at the football game again this week.  Derrik and I were in Hollywood and missed it.  Ashton was there with the grandparents.  I did get to see the video and thought I would share it!  They are doing so well!

John Williams at the Hollywood Bowl

John Williams does a handful of performances each year.  He is 84 years old, after all.  He does an annual visit to the Hollywood bowl each summer and I got there this year!  He conducted the LA Philharmonic through many of his movie scores.  Such a great night!  Bucket list item, for sure!

Saugus Back to School and Choir Performance

The older boys had back-to-school night and Ethan and the Concert Choir sang.  We walked around Cameron's classes and I sat in the choir room during Ethan's choir period.

Ashton did his 6th grade pictures this week!  So handsome!  I've been going into school to work in the classroom.  Things have been hectic and Derrik brought me home coffee and flowers.  It's been a great week!
