Boys being boys

"It goes like this..."

They just don't fit in the same bed like they used to.

A much needed roll down a hill to solve all the worlds problems.

Ashton's Farm Open House

We attended Ashton's open house a few weeks back and had some  photos and a video to share.  He has had a great school year and we are so proud of him.  His teacher and the principal have decided that he's "the poster child for inclusion" and we are so happy with how he's done.

K-2 Choir Makes it's Debut!

Getting the kids lined up to sing.  Ashton is in the red shirt in the front.
The sound guy loves getting his picture taken.

Cameron arrives at the ceremony his his class.

The choir that the school started back in March has done it's very first performance!  We sang at the flag ceremony on Friday morning.  Ethan ran sound for me and Derrik took pictures and video.  The whole school got to see the kids perform.  We had so much fun!  We hope to sing one more time before end of the year.

Apple Valley Adventure

Feeding the fish
Rainbow trout

Cameron petting the donkey

These two LOVE getting wet!

While visiting the parents this past weekend, we checked out a fish hatchery and  the Mojave Narrows Regional Park.  The boys got to feed the fish at the hatchery and then we headed over to the park to play.  There was a donkey, camel and horses there as well as a water play area and playground.  I think we'll be back!

The Red Bass

Unwrapping it from the box
Holding it for the first time, Cameron has the amp

He's so happy!

Ethan got his bass today.  He and Cam have been standing by the door, willing UPS to come up the hill and he finally came.  It's so pretty!  The fiddling has begun and I don't see him getting tired of it any time soon.  Here's the first of many videos.

Ethan's Birthday

Wow!  Can you believe Ethan is 12?  We took him and some of his friends to a glow-in-the-dark mini-golf place and then had pizza and cake.  He had a nice birthday!

Backwards Day

The boys celebrated backwards day at school this week.  Here are photos:

Bulldog Bandstand

Ethan entered the school talent show with his friend, Kemper.  The music had to be from the 50's and 60's, since the school had it's first official year in 1961.  The boys picked the song, "Wipeout" and Ethan borrowed an electric guitar from a local music store for the performance.  Kemper's mom, Debbie, posted a video of it on Facebook.  There's a link to it on my wall.  We were so proud of Ethan and how much he has learned on guitar over the last year!

Let's Go to the Hop!

Derrik entered the hula-hoop contest!
The school had a sock hop last Friday and we all went to enjoy the dancing and fun!

Making a Mask

Every member of the sixth grade class at school had to make a mask of their face for the history unit they're doing.  Ethan and I went yesterday to make his.
Eww...this feels gross!
First, you have to pull all his hair back with a fabulous hair band.  Next, you lather a ton of vaseline on his face to make sure those great eyebrows don't get ripped out.

Then, you cover his face with strips of paper covered in a plaster powder that causes it to stick together, forming a mask.

It takes a little while to dry but when it's finished, you have a mask of your face!  Once they're completely dry, the kids will paint them.  Pretty cool project!

Hail? Snow? What is it?

We had a so-cal winter storm here yesterday.  The forecast was for snow so the boys were anxiously waiting for  it to come.  Well, something like snow came and left, within about five minutes.  There were little tiny balls of snow, not ice.  We called it "snail" since it was a combination of snow and hail.  It's not much to brag about considering all the winter the rest of the country has had but we sure get worked up over anything white falling from the sky.  We caught a quick picture and video, just to show you.

Valentines Day

We had a really nice Valentine's Day!  Derrik made it very special for the boys and I.  The boys woke up to donuts for breakfast (which I'm sure their teachers appreciated later in the morning!) and when I got out of the shower I found a shaving cream note on the mirror and roses!  Wow!  Cameron made little heart notes and posted them around the house.  The boys exchanged cards and candy with their classmates and I even got a Valentine's song from one of the 4th grade classes that I taught that morning.

Look at my pictures!

Ashton has been creating masterpieces on the computer and usually needs me to take a picture of it.  I thought I'd share.

Awards and Celebrations

Ethan was honored yesterday at school and earned a scholarship award.  We are very proud of him!  All three boys have earned awards now and we are so pleased with how well they are doing.

Ashton and his class celebrated the 100th day of school yesterday with special hats, fruit loop necklaces and a visit from Zero the Hero (who is a superhero).  What a fun day!

Mother-Son Dessert

I spent last Wednesday with Ethan and Cameron at their Mother-Son dessert up at church.  How fun to spend the evening with them!  They both shared what they appreciate about me.  Ethan likes that I don't always make him clean his room and Cameron likes how I cheer him up when he's sad.  Very sweet!
